Exercise & Cholesterol

How does exercise affect cholesterol?

One of the best part about exercise and cholesterol is that it actively increases the level of HDL.  It isn’t necessarily a given that this will occur but in many cases it does just that.  HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) is the "good" cholesterol in our body.  It acts as the removal agent for cholesterol in our bodies.  Higher levels of HDL cholesterol is directly linked to lowering the risk for Heart Disease.

There are other benefits to exercise as well, these alone are worth the effort to exercise on a daily basis.  Some of the benefits of regular exercise are:

  1. Help With Weight Control
  2. Aid in offsetting Diabetes
  3. Lower Or Control High Blood Pressure

Other forms of exercise such as brisk walking, jogging and swimming have a positive effect on the conditioning of both your heart and your lungs.

Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease.

This is a situation where any form of moderately intensive activities will provide benefit, especially if done daily.  Some of these activities are walking, gardening, housework (YUCK!), dancing, yard work as well as home exercise.

Doing "something" or "anything" is better for you and your heart health than sitting down and doing nothing.

So when it comes to exercising and controlling the levels of cholesterol in your body, just do it!
